Perugia
Beautiful medieval city located in Umbria, Perugia, rich of art and history, its surrounding are witness to both the Roman and the Etruscan civilizations. Town is identified by the presence of many prestigious university, home to thousands of Italian and International students.
For that reason, Perugia has all the lively characteristics of a typical university town, and it is full of interesting attractions,concerts and night spots. Before 1st century BC, Perugia was part of the Etruscan kingdom, and after came under the Roman rule around 40 BC.

The main historical attractions are definitely represented by the many churches that vary in style and size,
but all equally worth a walk thru them: the San Lorenzo Cathedral, the San Severo chapel( which features a beautiful fresco from Raffaello). Palazzo Dei Priori is the lovely medieval structure was built in the 13th century, underwent numerous modifications over the years and now you can come find beautiful frescoes in the Sala dei Notari. Palazzo Dei Priori is today the home of the City Hall.
Main square of city is the Piazza IV November. In medieval times, square was the center where the town five major roads crossed each other.

Piazza IV November is today heart of Perugia and it is often a gathering place for the young people that populate the city. During the summer time,(we recommend!!!) the popular Umbria Jazz Festival takes place,many attracting numerous visitors and music lovers from all over the world. The event usually attracts some of the best musician from the U.S. and their European counterparts, for amazing concerts under the Umbrian sky. Umbria Jazz takes place in June every year.
One of the most important monument in Perugia, is Fontana Maggiore (Major Fountain) completed in 1278.
Fountain is very beautiful sculpture and it portrays diverse subjects that go from the zodiac signs to the months of the year and even scenes from the Bible.
Your tour can continue with the Church of San Severo,which was originally built on the site of a Pagan temple and it was again reconstructed around the 18th century. The upper part of the church was painted by great Raffaello, whereas its lower part is the work of local artist Perugino. Church of San Pietro was founded in 10th century, but its best features date to the 16th. Inside you can see an interesting collection of Renaissance art and paintings, including frescoes by Raffaello, Perugino, Vassillacchi, and Parmigiano.
Perugia is also the home of the “Perugina”, maker of the famous chocolate “Bacio” (kiss). Perugina is an Italian brand which is known all over the world.
